Checkin in for a good cause…

As I mentioned, Michelle and I have been playing Foursquare around town. This morning I saw this article about how New York players points would be micropayments to benefit http://www.campinteractive.org/.

It was fun to check in around town and we went to at least one new place we might not have gone had I not been playing the game. I’d love to see them implement the micropayment model here.

Foursquare

Foursquare
Michelle reminded me about Google Latitude (added me) a couple days ago. That reminded me of the similar, though more robust, Foursquare (originally called Dodgeball, bought by Google and abandoned). Now back and reportedly even better. I say reportedly because Tampa was not a supported city. This is the exciting part – I checked the site and Tampa was added and we can play.

Here’s a bit from their site:

People use foursquare to “check-in”, which is a way of telling us your whereabouts. When you check-in someplace, we’ll tell your friends where they can find you and recommend places to go & things to do nearby. People check-in at all kind of places – cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, homes, offices.

You’ll find that as your friends use foursquare to check-in, you’ll start learning more about the places they frequent. Not only is it a great way to meet up with nearby friends, but you’ll also start to learn about their favorite spots and the new places they discover.

I’m guaranteed a Mayoral Dominance on B&N on N. Dale Mabry. I’ll probably add that to my resume.
